His bright blue hair fluttered out behind him a bit as the young boy skipped down the street. He hummed as he went, a big smile on his face. Why was he happy? He didn't really know, there were no reasons. In fact, there were plenty of reasons for Parker to be unhappy. But that didn't stop him from being the optimistic thirteen year old boy he was. Who cared if he might never see his friends; Nigel, Ray, Quinci, and Sawyer, again? Who cared if he was some mutant freak from mars? Not him. Not know.

Picking up things we shouldn't read

Suddenly, Parker stopped. He turned around, his blue eyes searching out the sound. There was someone else in the alley-way. They might have not have seen him, but he had sure heard them. "W-w-who's there?" Boldly he stepped forward before shrinking back with fright. At that moment all the sadness of his life and fear came rushing back to him and he stumbled back. Ray wasn't there to scoop him up and comfort him. Quinci wasn't there to sing him a funny song and cheer him up. Nigel wasn't there to tell him that he wasn't the only screwed up person, which, amazingly, had helped. And Sawyer wasn't there to cling and sob into. No one except the mystery person was there. How he wished they would leave and let him go back to the happy place.

Coban Newman was walking down the alleyways when she saw a racoon searching in the trash cans. She strolled over to it and looked it in the eyes. It growled viciously and prepared to attack her. Wind whipped into the alleyway and she captured it in a sphere of air. "W-w-who's there?" She smirked and walked towards the voice, her hands constantly moving in front of her, keeping the racoon in the sphere. "It's ok. The only other mamals in this place are me and this here racoon with rabies." She appeared from around the corner and stopped walking. It was a scrawny kid! Not really worth her time. She compressed the air in the sphere and literally suffocated the racoon. The air disapated and she tossed it into the very trash cans it had been searching for food in minutes before. She dusted her hands and shoved her fingerless gloved hands into her long coat pockets. Coban's brown hair fluttered in the wind as she walked straight past the boy and stopped in mid stride. "Do I get a thank you or should I resurect that racoon?" Coban hadn't realised that she wore dark sunglasses until she took them off and rose an eyebrow at the boy, gloved hands on hips. Her coat was an onyx black as was her pants. Her shirt and lip gloss were dark red. She looked through cold brown eyes at him and frowned gently, the boy was almost as tall as her. "What's the matter? Cat got your tongue?" Coban looked at him peircingly and realised he was only one year younger than her.

A girl with a racoon in a sphere of wind came walking toward him, and Parker stared with wide eyes. She had spoken and told him that it had rabies, but still. Suddenly, the older kid started chocking the animal with the air. With out a care she seemed to toss in into a trash can and he held back a gasp.
However, before he could say anything, she was talking again and taking off her dark sunglasses. She wore mostly black with a dark red t-shirt, which made Parker smile a bit. His friends would have liked her. Finally, he was able to talk. "What'd you do to that little racoon? You didn't kill it, did you?"

Coban picked the racoon back up and inflated it like a balloon. It coughed cutely and looked at the girl with gentle eyes. "Happy? It's gotten rid of the rabies too. So...what's your name? I'm Coban. Are you 13 by any chance?" Her eyes softened a little as she looked him up and down but then quickly looked away and let the racoon go back to digging in the bins. She scuffed her sneakers on the floor and saw a deflated basketball in one of the corners. Grinning she levitated it and inflated it. Coban dribbled the ball before passing it to the boy and raising her eyebrow again. "You wanna play around with it for a bit?" She looked at him indifferently and then smiled softly. This boy had blue hair...her favourite color! She looked at him again, but for longer. She looked away again and put a hand over her mouth. Clear nail polish shimmered on her neatly kept nails. Her eyes clouded over a bit as she remembered her mother. Coban had gotten news of her mother...but bad news. Her mother was now dead, had died from some long term illness.

She cleared her throat and turned away from the boy. Coban didn't want him to see her cry. Her mother had been a spitting image of Coban, but with blue eyes...not brown. She suddenly felt her eyes clear and she turned back. "Sorry about that. I got some bad news today." She just left it at that. Coban smiled and created a gust of wind and sent it to tickle the boys sides. "Nothing like laughter to cure sadness and fear. My real mother used that as her favourite saying." She disappated the air and felt a gentle breeze come through. She took out a bit of blue food coloring and poured it into the air. Surprisingly it didn't fall, but the breeze swirled around in the alley-way, the color of the sky.

The girl inflated the racoon, then asked what his name was. He was still getting use to all this power stuff, having found out only a couple of days ago. So it didn't seem to belong together, blowing up a mammal and then talking like regular people. However, he went ahead and answered. "I'm Parker..Parker Devlish." There was a short pause before he spoke again. "Yeah, I'm thirteen."
Soon after he had replied, Coban was passing him a basketball. His favorite! As she looked away he dribbled the ball, then glanced up when she spoke again. Parker was about to reply when a gust of wind flew at him, attacking his sides. Imediatly he dropped the ball and giggled insanley, batting away, still laughing when it did. This Coban girl was fun, and he had taken a liking to her. When she turned the breeze that had drifted into the alley way blue, Parker laughed again. "That's so cool!"

Coban smiled and laughed as he commented on the colour of the breeze. She poured in green and red colouring too, but they didn't mix and remained seperate colours. Her smile grew larger as she made it go around Parker's waist. "See if you can touch it, Parker." She instructed gently. If he touched it...the food dye would just split in to a lot of strands of air, then re-join somewhere else. Coban grinned and took the ball back. She dribbled it and passed it back to the blue haired boy. "You wanna guess how old I am? I'm a little bit older than you...not by much though."

The colored wind swirled around him, several different colors now. Cautiously Parker reached out and tried to touch it, but all that happened was it split up into different strands before coming back together a few inches away. Surprised he pulled his head away and subconsiously wiped them on his jeans, as if the breeze had gotten him dirty. Once he looked up, Coban passed him the ball and he caught it, just barley, on the end of his fingers. "Um, 15? 14?" He guessed, dribbling and passing it back.

Coban smiled and laughed as Parker wiped his hand on his jeans. "You guessed it...I'm fourteen. It sucks though. Most guys steer clear of me because I wear dark clothing." She fiddled with the velcro pieces around her knees in her jeans and took the bottom of the pants off. (They are pants that can be transofrmed into three-quarter shorts.) She growled playfully and dove at the basketball. She then froze and pricked her ears, listening to the wind. 'You and the boy are in danger. There is a boy coming who wishes to hurt you...to get to Jeda Donias.' The wind whispered and she grew serious. "Do you trust me Parker? If you do, follow me, keep quiet and stay close." She gently took his hand in her smooth gloved one and half ran, half walked own the alleyway and turned a corner. There was an abandoned block of units. There was an outside, metal structure with ladders and stairs. Coban let go of Parker's hand for a bit to expertly get the ladder to come down. She climbed up and turned back to face Parker. "Hurry Parker! Hurry!" She urged and beckonned nervously. Her hand found his as she leaped up two flights of stairs and finally stopped, two storeys off the ground. She pulled Parker into a protective hug and wrapped her warm long coat around him. Coban pressed a pale finger to her lips and remained huddled in the corner as she heard the tinkling of glass.

Thomas Winters

The fourteen year old boy scuffed his sneakers on the side walk, thinking of ways to get to her. He stopped in midstride as he heard laughter and the sound of a ball bouncing. Thomas smirked maliciously as he laid eyes upon one of Jeda's friends, she was playing with a boy who had shocking blue hair. The blonde boy looked both ways before crossing the street and then looked into the alleyway again. Drat! The girl and the boy had vannished. He kicked a dustbin in frustration and then heard the soothing tinkle of shattered glass. He drew them out of the bin and moulded the shards into something similar to a long sword. He grinned a little in lunacy and hefted it showily onto his shoulder before turning into a corner and looking around. No one was on the ground. He ignored the outside entrance to the abandoned appartment and searched elsewhere in the place. "DAMN THEM! DAMN THEM ALL TO H*LL!" He cursed loudly and then looked elsewhere.

"Really?" Parker commented, a bit surprised to hear the guys hear didn't like girls in black. Back at home, with his friends, she would have fit right in. He waited a bit for the basketball, noticing half way through that she had froze and was looking rather serious. Suddenly she spoke and grabbed onto his hand, pulling him after her. "What are we do-" He tried to ask, but they were already at a ladder and she was telling him to climb on up. Gripping the ladder tight Parker scrambled up. Once at the top Coban had a hold of his hand and they were soon standing, alone. He was pulled into a hug and he wrapped his arms around her like he use to do with the guys when things got rough. "Who is that? What does he want?" Whimpered the boy, listening to the swearing coming from bellow.

Coban hugged him closer and kissed him on the top of his blue hair. "He was my friend's ex boyfriend. He got so jealous one day that he tried to slit her throat. She still has the scar from it. He also threw a metal skewer into her shoulder. She had to rip the looped end through to the front. But it was cursed. So she now has to 'burn the scars shut.' if she doesn't her powers drain away for a month or two." She held him tighter and gently kissed him on the temple. "It'll be okay soon. I promise to let you meet Jeda." She enveloped him even more in the jacket and stroked his hair soothingly. Her neatly kept nails making swishing noises as they passed through the blue strands.

Parker shivered in fear as she described the boy who seemed to be after them. Slit her throat? Metal skewer? Again he shuddered and was glad when Coban pulled him closer and kissed him on the head. Just like in the past.
However, after a while he got rather skwirmy. No one could keep an energetic 13 year old still for too long, no matter what the cause. "Is he gone yet?" He seemed to whisper over and over again, shuffling his feet around in anxiousness.

Kunai ^^

Coban felt him wriggle and looked over the edge of the platform, through the bars. "You don't mind flying do you? Coz you don't have a choice." She summoned a sphere of air and tugged him inside. She smiled reasuringly and hissed lightly as she felt something pierce her hand. She growled and saw the large glass shard in her left hand and ripped it out with her hands. Coban suddenly dropped them to the ground and walked out of the bubble. She made the sphere inpenitrable by smearing a blood red powder onto the sphere. Coban smiled but then turned around and whistled lowly. a large gust of wind came past and ruffled her coat feircely. She felt the wind give her a "fighting outfit" and she looked around. She felt glad as she found she had some kunai (small japanese throwing knives) and some shuriken (small japanese throwing stars). "SHOW YOURSELF THOMAS! I, COBAN THE SORCERESS OF THE WIND HAS COME TO FIGHT YOU!" Coban shouts, each hand grasping a kunai.

Thomas

He smirked and came out of the shadows, staring at the intimidating wind powered girl. "I hope you can fight as good as you look. I'll win easily though." He laughed and she seemed to think about a strategy. He sent shards of glass at the red air bubble and they shattered, not breaking through. "What is this magic?" He hadn't seen her smear the powder on the air bubble.

Fly? He was about to ask what she ment when he was shoved into a..bubble? Parker gasped and looked around, shocked. Suddenly something zipped at Coban and went through her hand. He quickly closed his eyes, not wanting to know what would happen. And when he opened them again a blond haired boy stood in the open. The bubble was red now, but he didn't think anything of it until this Thomas kid hurled glass at it, only to have them break. Parker squealed in fright, then glared at him.

Coban shook her head at Parker and then caught the blonde boy in an air sphere. She then smeared the red powder over it and ran back to Parker's bubble. She grinned and licked her finger before sticking it and the rest of her body through. "Where do you wanna go? We can go get some ice-cream?" She asked and pointed at the ice-cream stand. She laughed suddenly, thinking of how the h*ll Thomas was gonna get out of the bubble. "The only one who can make those bubbles go away are me and any other elemental powered person." She explained as she floated them down and dispersed the bubble, colecting the red dust from it. Coban walked over to the stall and looked at the man. "One bubble gum please. What do you want Parker?" She smiled down at him and rose a teasing eyebrow.

Thomas Winters

Thomas slammed his fists into the inpenitrable bubble and roared in frustration. He sat down in the middle of it and began rapidly cursing her and her friends. He began to pace around in the confined space.

Parker couldn't help but laugh when Coban caught the guy in another bubble. He managed to not point, however, and looked at her when she entered the bubble. "Oooh! Ice cream!" In the back of his mind he relized how weird it would be to, uh, float down to an ice cream stand. But obviously Coban was use to it, for she made the bubble drift towards the stand before popping it. He followed her over there and scanned the list of flavors before answering. "Chocolate." The man nodded and went to get the two treats. While he was doing that Parker looked up at Coban. "So, he'll just stay there until someone else who can do that air thingy gets him out?"

Coban laughed and put her hand through her brunette hair. "That or someone else with powers to control fire, earth or water can. It's an elemental trick. Your powers don't defend you do they? No matter, I can teach you martial arts." She paid for their ice-creams and started licking hers. She dug her finger into the blue coloured treat and whipped it mischeviously onto Parker's nose tip. She poked out her tongue and blew a raspberry at him. Coban laughed cheekily and looked at him. "You wanna lick it off or should I?" She meant it as a joke of course. Being fair she put a matching blue smudge on her nose and wrinkled it humerously.

Parker shook his head, his power wasn't very useful when it came to defending himself. His eyes widened a bit at her other statment, about her teaching him martial arts. Now that sounded fun! Getting his icecream he began to lick it carefuly, one side at a time. However he stopped when Coban reached out and whipped some of her own onto his nose. Laughing he stuck out his tounge and whipped some of his own on her nose then his. "You look funny with that on your nose." Giggled Parker, not able to resist.

Coban grinned and touched her nose to his, blue mixed with brown and she fell backwards laughing. She then got her knapkin and wipped the ice-cream off of her nose. She then wipped it off Parkers nose and tossed the used piece of paper into the bin. She then dusted her hands and made to punch Parker, but stopped her fist just before it touched his nose. "A good warrior knows how to punch. But an even better warrior knows how to stop their fist before they hit. Now you try. Try and hit me with all that you've got. I will be doing the same to you." She said gently. Coban took a defencive stance and gave a one sided smile to Parker.

Parker giggled some more, crinkling up his nose as she wiped the icecream off it. He was about to say something when Coban's fist came flying at his face then stopped only inches from his nose. Surprised, he stumbled back a bit before listening to her reason. So this was some of that martial arts stuff she had been talking about. Grinning a bit he put his hands into fists and punched as hard as he could. Being not that strong, it probably felt like nothing to her.

Coban smiled and blocked his punch with her hand, sliding back a few inches. She supressed the urge to wince as he hit the injured hand. "Okay...lets make this more interesting. I corner you, I get to kiss your cheek. You corner me, you get to...um, what would you like from me?" She tied back her hair and poked out her tongue at him cutely.

"Uhhh..." Parker tried to think of something and soon came up with a not very creative idea. "How about I get to kiss your cheek?" He suggested, then relized he didn't really know what she ment by corner. "What are we doing, by the way?"

Coban ruffled his hair and grinned. "Litterally trying to back each other into a spot where they are defenceless. Try it...I dare ya!" She teased and switched into her sorceress clothes.

Parker giggled as she ruffled his hair, though straightened up as she explained. He nodded, understanding, and crouched down a bit. Just like he had seen Sawyer do before attacking something in his wolf form. Then, as fast as he possibly could, he rushed at her. However he zig-zagged as he ran, so she wouldn't quiet know where he would end up.

She grinned and crossed her arms behind her back before running at him and flipping in mid air. She predicted where he would be next and went in for the kill. She then made an attempt to grab his arms and put a kunai to his neck. "My point." She whispered in his ear and kissed him on the cheek before leaping away. She growled and bent low to the ground. She was protecting her weakness. Her arms.

Before he could even begin to relize what was going on, Coban was holding his arms and had a kunai against his neck. Wow she was good! She kissed him on check and he could feel himself blush a bit before being released. "You're good! How'd you do that flippy thing? Ya know, in the air"
